“Try New Things” with Bookkeeping Coach Erika Millard

Meet Erika Millard! A SOWBO Member, Erika is the founder of Erika Millard Bookkeeping, specializing in bookkeeping coaching for female entrepreneurs. Erika teaches her clients how to manage their own bookkeeping so that they don’t have to spend time and money hiring an outside accountant. By offering resources and answering questions, Erika ensures that her clients can manage their own books, keep a pulse on the financial health of their business, and implement strategies for success!

Let’s get to know Erika Millard and her work.

What is your “why” for bookkeeping coaching?

I am so passionate about empowering women to know & understand their business financials! I want them to feel like they can make better business decisions because they understand what the numbers are telling them.

Who is your Ideal bookkeeping coaching client?

I love working with female business owners who are DIYing their bookkeeping or have a bookkeeper but want a deeper understanding of what the numbers mean.

What makes you different from other bookkeeping coaches?

I am friendly and approachable! You can ask me ANY question without feeling dumb. Hot messes are welcome here!

Tell us something fun, quirky, or weird that you’d like our readers to know about you?

I went into Accounting because I wanted to be in the FBI! I figured I could be a secret agent because no one would suspect me as a 5 ft 2, blonde female!

What do you do for fun outside of running your business?

I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, playing with my kiddos, & hiking.

Who inspires you?

Business owners who aren’t afraid to try new things & be different from the industry norm!

What is your big scary dream?

My big scary dream is to speak on stage (and maybe write a book??) about money & money mindset & how that impacts business & life.

Is there one person or thing that you attribute your success to?

Community! Without community, I would’ve stayed stuck in a business that I didn’t enjoy. Through the help & support of my community, I’ve been able to pivot into providing services that are SO fulfilling to me.

What advice do you have for those on their entrepreneur journey?

Don’t be afraid to do things differently than what you see around you! Also, lean into what potential clients are telling you they need & be willing to take steps to help fill in the gaps on those needs.

What book or podcast do you think every business owner should consume? Why is this important to you?

I love the book The Go Giver. It’s fun to read since it’s written as fiction, but there are so many practical takeaways about serving others & having the right motives in business.

What is one thing you love about SOWBO and/or being a member of our community?

I LOVE the genuine friendships I’ve made! Through the fun & hard parts, I now have true friends that can walk through the entrepreneur journey alongside me. I also love that that makes it so easy to refer – who doesn’t want to tell the world about their business BFFs??
