Today we are excited to feature web design and branding expert Lauren Felter, founder of Felter Unfiltered & SOWBO CAP Member!
Felter Unfiltered is a web design and branding agency that also offers amazing branding, design, and website courses specifically for non-designers. Lauren has designed and managed websites and taught design at a major university. She helps her clients make sure their website and branding attract the right person, convert a curious onlooker, and seal the deal, focusing on her clients’ branding and website aligning with their business goals.
Let’s get to know Lauren and her work! (And, look for her free gift to you at the end of the article.)
I know design can be a big blind spot for some and also very intimidating. I love working with non-designers to help them use design to achieve their business goals.
I work with a lot of service providers who operate both online and in-person, including social media managers, copywriters, attorneys, therapists, accountants, professional speakers, coaches, interior designers, etc.
Non-designers really trust that I will educate them through the process and ensure they have a final product that aligns with their business goals.
I’m able to explain design decisions to clients and work with them to get to an end result that solves a problem in their business or helps them achieve a goal.
In college, I was one of those sad fans on ESPN during a football game, and I used to be the top search result for “sad cute LSU fan.” I’ve since been replaced, but I still live on in GIF history.
Watch football with my boyfriend, go for walks, cook, and listen to podcasts
I’d one day like to try stand-up comedy. I have a very dry sense of humor, and I was voted “funniest” in high school. But, of course, trying new things can be very intimidating.
I am very thankful for therapy for providing me the tools to be resilient and be able to handle setbacks. I was raised with the “sticks and stones don’t break my bones” mentality, which doesn’t actually help you manage your emotions through hard stuff later in life.
I’ve finally gotten to a place where I’ve “cracked the code” on organic sales for my courses, and I’m happy with the conversion rates. So now, I’m ready to scale with ads. My focus for the coming year is volume, messaging, and repetition.
Volume – not being afraid to put myself out there and spend the money on ads to grow my audience.
Messaging – being hyper-focused on market research and audience response to messaging that works and doesn’t.
Repetition – staying present and being top of mind for my audience.
Pivoting is not failure. No matter how many people you told or how much time, money, or energy you invested or how badly you thought you wanted something. If what you’re doing isn’t working, you’re allowed to pivot.
I love the “Trading Secrets” podcast by Jason Tartick. Although it’s not necessarily geared toward online business owners, he interviews big name celebrities and challenges them to get candid about money. It provides a lot of perspective and insight that I find very invaluable.
I love how warm and open everyone is! I went to high school in the “mean girls era” (and frankly, was a bit of a mean girl myself). It’s so refreshing to now be in a time where it’s cool to be inclusive.
Thanks to Lauren Felter for sharing about herself and her business! We love her encouragement to pivot when things aren’t working. Get to know Lauren and her work even better by visiting Felter Unfiltered. And, be sure to take her free quiz: What Fonts and Colors Work for Your Brand?
