If you’ve ever read The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, then you’re familiar with the four different mental zones: Zone of Incompetence, Zone of Competence, Zone of Excellence, and Zone of Genius. Hendricks shares how to overcome barriers that prevent us from living a fulfilled life. He also explains that we must aim to live in the Zone of Genius if we want to live a happy life.
Your Zone of Genius is where you feel the most energized and natural. You can identify this state when your innate abilities start to shine (rather than the learned abilities).
Many people identify the zone of genius when a “superpower” starts to shine. A superpower is the thing you uniquely and naturally do better than anyone else; it’s your supernatural gift from God.
Everyone has a zone of genius and a superpower. It may take a while to figure it out, but if you’re intentional with discovering it… you’ll find it. Reality is – no one can do what you do in the way that you do it.
Below are some questions you can ask yourself to start discovering just exactly what falls in your zone of genius.
We talk a lot about mindset shifts and how they are necessary to achieve the life and business that we truly desire. Identifying your genius zone (and what does or does not fall into it) is most important when stepping into a CEO role.
Reality is… most entrepreneurs start with a freelancer mindset rather than a CEO mindset. Once a CEO mindset is achieved, you will be able to easily identify what falls in your Zone of Genius and what should be delegated. Delegating items outside of this zone will make you a BETTER business owner and leader.
Another reason that you want to delegate tasks that do not fall in your zone of genius is so that you can remove the distractions that ultimately limit you from achieving your greatest dreams.
Have you ever said, “I want to work less hours and spend more time with my family” or maybe, “I’ll be glad when I can stop working these crazy hours and actually start dating again.” By delegating your non-genius work, you will have more time available to keep doing genius work.
Research shows that staying in your zone of genius will ultimately bring more money your way. Whether that’s because you’re able to scale the business now that you’re delegating tasks or because potential clients become more attracted to you when you’re happy/fulfilled. We all know that smiling is contagious. Stay in your zone and smile!
